A Basecamp for the Modern Explorer.

Rain Forest Hotel was born out of a simple idea: travelers to Kuala Lumpur deserve a place that feels authentic, comfortable, and deeply connected to the city's pulse—without the exorbitant price tag of luxury hotels.

Nestled right in the vibrant heart of Chinatown on Jalan Petaling, our building has history in its walls. We adapted this classic shophouse space to prioritize what matters most: clean, quiet, and air-conditioned rooms, hot showers, and a warm courtyard to recharge after a day of sensory overload in KL.

Building Legacy

How We Got Here

1920s

The Shophouse Era

Built during KL's historic mining boom, the building operated as a traditional Chinese merchant house, featuring classic high ceilings and an open air-well to draw in cool breezes.

2010s

The Preservation

We carefully renovated the space to install modern comforts (like robust AC and high-pressure plumbing) while preserving the raw clay brickwork and structural columns.

Today

The Basecamp

Today, we host writers, backpackers, and digital nomads from around the globe, offering a welcoming, budget-friendly refuge in the middle of Chinatown's non-stop energy.

"We wanted to build a place that stands for what travel used to be—personal, spontaneous, and anchored in the community."
